Young Artsits
Art used to be so much fun! Remember how awesome colouring was? Who else had that big black zip-up binder full of markers and crayons?
We used to love making stuff! What happened?
Somewhere along the way, we decided art was only fun if we made something good, and we arbitrarily decided what good art looked like.
We used to think everything we made was good. We’d colour outside the lines, draw stick figures with finger-paints, glue everything together just because we could—and we’d sit back and think, “I’m incredible.” We’d amaze ourselves.
And we were right to be amazed! Making something new and unique is an incredible thing. I’ve said it before (and in different ways): creativity is the greatest gift given to us humans. Creating things is our highest calling.
It used to be the most rewarding thing in the world.
Now: it scares us to death. Because it’s not just un-fun to make “bad” art. It’s embarrassing.
Now: there’s pressure associated with art; there are risks.

We have to go back. We have to make art fun again.
Our creativity is too important to shy away from. Because if you can chuck paint on a canvas, step back, and say, “aw yeah I made that” with pride, you can love yourself—you can BE yourself.
We need that. We need you. We need you to bravely share what you have to offer—not just on a canvas or in a song—but everywhere.
We used to do it naturally. Then we learned to hide.
Art can help us find our way back.
