You're an Artist

I advocate for creativity. On my main blog is my view of a utopian world in which everyone pursues their own art. My religion is evolving around a universal pursuit of novelty.

I believe art is the most important thing in the world, which begs the questions: what is art? Who are the artists?

You're the artist. Everything you do is art.

Art is an expression of creativity. Everything you bring into the world that wasn't there before is creative in nature. Every sentence you speak aloud is creative. Every word you jot in emails, social posts, group chats, or journals is creative. Every relationship you build and emotion you evoke in yourself and others is creative. Every trick you teach your dog; every picture you snap on your phone; every joke; every chord; every dish; every pot of coffee—it's all art.

Even every thought in your head that never sees the light of day is art—albeit very private art.

So when I advocate for creativity and call for “artists” to lean into their creativity, I am absolutely talking to you whether you own acrylic paints and an easel or a smartphone.

You are an artist. You were born to add things to this world that no one has ever seen before.

Embrace it. Enjoy it.
